Durian Feast - KL to Penang

A friend of mine visited recently with a sole purpose of trying durians from different areas. And so, our hunt began in KL. Unfortunately, there are no durian farms in KL, and we had to settle for local sellers in different places.
The King of Fruits
Our first stop was a popular stall in USJ. I have been buying from this lady for quite some time and most of her durians come from Raub, Pahang. My friend was only interested in Mao Sang Wang or commonly referred to as MSW durians, and we managed to get ourselves a few kilos to try out. It did not disappoint at all.
The following day, we made a trip to Sg Long, the trip was meant for my friend to buy some threads for crochet, we went to the distributor of DMC threads. And knowing my friend, he started searching for durian stalls around the area and managed to find one, this stall seems popular as there were people gathered to get their durian fix. The durians again were from Raub...
The MSW Durian
The texture was smooth, with some sweetness at the same time bitter, the taste that suite me most. You can tell that it's fresh as there were no moisture when the durian was opened. And that concluded Day 2 of our durian feast
The following day we drove up to Penang with stops along the way to indulge in our passion, FOOD!!!
In Penang there were endless stalls by the road selling durians, but nothing beats a trip to the farm to get our durian fix, and so our search began. By now most farms in Penang were at the end of the season but we manage to find one that still offers a good variety.
We made our way to Wong Durian House Durian Farm in Balik Pulau, and it was already packed with visitors. The feeling you get eating at the source itself aka the durian farm is somewhat different, it gives you an atmosphere of satisfaction and excitement😁😁😁. We ordered 2 different varieties, the Black Thorn and MSW
The Black Thorn Durian can easily be identified by the shape of the flesh and the thorn at the bottom
The Black Thorn variety has a slight sweetness to it but at the same time not as sweet as MSW durians. The shape of the flesh is rounder with a slightly bigger seed. The taste was not as rich in aroma and the texture was firmer. Overall, I did not find the Black Thorn as yummy as the MSW.
The following day, we went to the same durian farm again to get our durian fix plus "Ta Pau" a few kilos for the next day.
4 packs of MSW
Overall, the 5 days of durian indulgence was somewhat an overload but a good experience. To say that I ate too much is.... well, an understatement but enjoyable.
The verdict - Both Raub and Penang MSW durians are exceptionally yummilicious delicious, a tinge of bitterness (as in the Raub MSW durians) suited me better. The MSW durians in Penang were sweeter though.
