It was one of those spurs of the moment where you suddenly decide to make a last-minute trip and it was a trip to Negeri Sembilan, or N9 as we call it. I was keen to see the Minangkabau Museum and at the same time visit the royal town of Seri Menanti.
We started late morning driving along the old trunk road to Seremban. Our first stop was lunch, wanted to try the famous Seremban Beef Noodles at the market but it was closed. So we went to another shop that has been around for some time, Yee Kee Beef Noodles, located in the heart of Seremban.
The beef noodles in Seremban are very different from what we usually get in KL. The gravy is starchy and thick, comes with peanuts, vegetables and sesame seeds. The flavor is rich in black sauce, beef is tender, and the soup is very flavorful.
After lunch we made our way to the Negeri Sembilan Minangkabau State Museum. This Museum is quite unique as it was built using the Minangkabau design and houses the history of the state and its origin. There are quite a number of artifacts to see and a short history of the Japanese Occupation on Malaya during WW2. Within the same compound you can also visit the Ampang Tinggi Palace and is constructed of cengal wood. You can enter the palace to look at how the royal family lived during the old days.

We then headed off to the royal town of Seri Menanti, a short drive out of Seremban, to see the Royal Palace. As you approach the town, there is a majestic arch to welcome visitors. Close to the town is also a golf course.
The Palace is not very big and has 3 levels. The first level is where everyone gathers while the second level is the royal bedroom. The third level right at the top is the private vault.
The entire palace is made of wood and is segmented into different rooms for various functions. However, some parts of the palace were closed and there is not much to see inside the building.

We then made our way back to Seremban for some light shopping; however, we couldn't resist a pit stop along the way for the king of fruits!!!!

In Seremban we visited one of the popular shops that sells the famous "Siew Pow", a pork or chicken bun cooked in the oven, giving it a flaky crispy texture
Overall, it was a great day out and blessed with wonderful weather throughout the day. Driving along the old trunk road brought back some old memories but much has changed.
