Long Weekend - Binge Eating

Over the long weekend, I decided to try out a few eating spots. Some were so crowded that I decided to give it a miss and tried other places. First stop.....

1. Sup Kambing Hj Abu
It was a leisure evening drive to the heart of KL, supposedly a well known stall for Kambing Soup. Located at Jalan Doraisamy, this stall only open in the evening. For starters we ordered a Sup Kambing (Mutton Soup) and a Sup Tulang (Mutton bone Soup). Adjacent to this stall are several other shops where you can order their bread, drinks and nasi lemak, depending where you sit.

Bone Soup and Mutton Soup

Overall the taste of the soup is quite flavorful but the downside is it's the same soup irrespective of what meat you choose. There is no difference in the taste whatsoever. It would have been great if there's a difference in the taste for different meat.

We also ordered the nasi lemak from one of the shops and it was a big let down!!! How wrong can you go with Malaysia's favourite comfort dish!!! The egg was a tiny weeny slice, the sambal was sweet and the rice....well....plain rice with no coconut flavor. However the teh halia or ginger tea was satisfactorily made, sufficient tea and ginger taste blended together giving the desired flavor

2. Big Leaf - Indian Banana Leaf Rice
The following day, I thought I try a new Indian Banana Leaf restaurant. I was recommended this place quite sometime ago but didn't get round to visit. Finally I got some free time to try this place......I should have come long ago to try...didn't know I missed such a good restaurant. When I arrived, there was long queue already, waiting patiently to get a seat. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait too long for a seat

The long queue waiting for tables

Spacious and airy

Simple Menu

After going through the menu, we decided to try a few dishes. Ordered the fried chicken, fried tenggiri fish and the crispy bitter gourd. Didn't have to wait long either and our banana leaf plate came soon enough with our side dishes of cucumber salad, potato gravy and pumpkin gravy, followed by a mixture of dhall, chicken and crab gravy. I simply have to try all 3 !!!
The start of a great meal
The fried chicken was properly cooked retaining the moist while crispy on the outside. It's well marinated and you can taste the spices albeit not too spicy. The fish was also well cooked and fresh, no fishy smell whatsoever. The bitter gourd was very crispy, just the way I like it but I'm not sure why it looked so red in color....too much coloring??

This is one restaurant not to be missed. Good food, nice ambience, airy and clean but parking is a big challenge especially during peak periods. Nevertheless, it's a great foodie place. And you can just hop off behind this restaurant for the famous Ice Kacang, we skipped cos the queue was just too long !!!

3. ICC Pudu
This is another great food court to visit right in the heart of KL, this time in Pudu.  Being a public holiday, the place was fairly crowded despite the famous seafood noodle being closed. There's plenty of car parks within the building, so no worries about parking.
There are quite a number of stalls here but decided to go for the famous Imbi Road pork noodles and yam rice with pork

The yam rice was quite good and you can taste the yam flavor but could hardly see any yam pieces while the pork soup was just as good. Unfortunately, this stalls is quite popular and all they had left was minced pork when I ordered. The only let down was the food was served in plastic containers rather than proper plates and bowls.
On the other hand, the Imbi road pork noodles was a mix of flavors, while the meat was nice and firm the noodles was a bit let down in terms of texture, otherwise it would have a great meal.

4. Home cooked Bibimbap with grilled beef
And finally, after all the eating out, I decided to try my hand with home cooked Bibimbap with grilled beef. A simple dish and easy to make. I had made the rice with sushi style (ie vinegar, sugar, salt flavored) topped with grated cucumber and carrots, fresh green veg, spicy seaweed and fried egg. For the grilled beef it was marinated with gochujang, sugar/honey, pepper, cooking wine and garlic powder. Finally served with Kimchi and beer
