Red Wood Forest Hike

The weekend morning was cloudy and it drizzled a bit, nevertheless, the adventure in you see the brightness in our journey.....Bukit Cangkat Asa in Tanjung Malim.
The View of Tg Malim Town from lookout point.

The drive to Tg Malim took about an hour and the ideal parking area is the Tg Malim KTM station. There is a small car park along Jalan Kampung Lambak but parking is limited and it's free. Once we arrived, met up the rest of the other hikers and we were ready albeit encountering a slight drizzle. The attraction about climbing Bukit Cangkat Asa is the magnificent Red Wood Forest and the amazing view of Tg Malim Town

The first point of entry to the trail head is the go kart circuit underneath the NKVE. It's just along the road and you cannot miss it
The Go-Kart Circuit

Take the road next to it and walk along till you reach the Impiana Sri Bayu, a private residence and this is where the trail head starts.

Continue straight until you come across a typical kampung house. Keep left of the road and follow the narrow path and along a small drain.
Kampung house on the right but keep left

Along the narrow path you will come across a few bridges and go across till you reach a small durian plantation.

Once you've cleared all 3 bridges, you will enter a small rubber plantation.

Just follow the path and at this point the trail is still flat and easy to hike. Make sure you have your anti insect repellents as the mosquitos here are quite aggressive. After a short walk, the terrain changes and the climb starts.
Take 5 - Halfway up

It is not a difficult trail but you will come across a few steep climbs
Halfway up the trail, you will start to encounter the red wood forest or known as Pokok Gelam, the trunks are red in color. These trees are noticeable all the way up to the peak

Just before reaching the peak, you will reach a "view check point", here, you can catch an amazing view of Tg Malim Town and the KTM station as well. This is a very good rest stop as there is sufficient space but do watch out monkeys as they tend to snatch away your stuff if left unattended.

Do not be mistaken that this is the peak as the real peak is just a short distance away.

The Real Peak

There are more red wood trees at the peak itself.

Overall, this is an easy hike for regular hikers but can be considered moderate for newbies to hike. The overall hike took about 2.5 hours including rest stop, photo shoots and brunch.
Entire distance is about 2 km single way, its not too far a distance to hike.
