Santai in Butterworth

We started and ended our Penang Foodie cravings in Butterworth, an out of the norm foodie experience that took us by surprise.

Foodie Experience No. 1
We started our Penang Foodie outing in Butterworth. Our original intention for lunch was supposed to be at Shui Yuan Seafood restaurant, famous for its deep fried pork knuckle, boiled baby octopus, lala and fried sotong. However, the restaurant was closed on that day. Subsequently, we decided to try Restoran Law Cheang Kee, a favourite among locals. When we arrived, the place was packed with customers and we had to wait a while, fortunately not a long wait. We ordered their house specialty, Seafood porridge and Deep Fried Kembong Fish. Along with these 2 dishes, we added boiled baby octopus and a vegetable dish

The deep fried kembong fish was very crispy and we practically ate the whole fish (minus the main bone) head to tail !!! The seafood porridge was loaded with fresh seafood of sorts while the baby octopus was boiled perfectly.
And the best part, it was not expensive.....Relatively cheaper than most places.

Foodie Experience No. 2
We ended our Penang Foodie experience in Butterworth as well, this time in Bagan Ajam. A well tucked away restaurant called Ong Cheng Huat Seafood Restaurant.

This restaurant has been around for decades. I remember we used to sit under a hot sweaty shack eating but now this place has reinvented itself to a bigger and cooler restaurant. Different atmosphere, same delicious food.

We ordered their signature fried beehoon, Fried popiah, Lala, Fried chicken wings, boiled octopus and a vege. We wanted to try their deep fried quail but unfortunately was not available. To top it up, we ordered "toddy" an alcoholic drink that is extracted from the cut flower of a coconut tree and fermented. It goes well either on it's own or with Stout.
We did both!!!! 😁😁😁😁

The food is still as good as before and it gets crowded during lunch time
