Penang Waterfall Trail

On our next hiking adventure in Penang, I managed to meet up with an old friend of mine and he guided us to Penang Waterfall via the Permai trailhead. The trail started off easy with a generally flat short walk and slowly inched upwards all the way to the falls

The trail is quite pleasant and not too difficult. However to get to the falls, you will definitely need a trail app (like AllTrails or Koomot) to guide you as there are off trails that you need to follow. Along the way you will come across a small area with Pokok Gelam Merah or Red Wood trees (similar to those is Bukit Changkat Asa)
The Red Wood Tree

After about an hour plus, we came to my friend's secret hideout, he calls Kew Gardens. It's a small clearing on the Upper Penang Falls and there are some smaller falls where you can enjoy a nice jacuzzi !!!

This route is part of the Mountain Bike - Section 46 trail which eventually leads us all the way to the Station 46 rest stop and the Penang Hill road. It was sad too see this nice rest stop in such dilapidated state. There's plenty of seating areas available and well shaded from the hot burning sun.
The Rest Stop

After a good rest we headed back through a different trail called The Parliment. This trail leads you directly to Penang Waterfall and then back to our original trail

Before reaching the falls, there is a sign to warn people about the waterfall. It's a very steep 10 - 15 mins hike downwards with an incline of about 70° to 80° and up again after admiring the falls.

The entire hike with rest stops and photography took us about 5 hours covering 10 km. This is not a difficult trail but surely will come back again one day to enjoy longer at the falls and probably camp a night as well.
