It was a glorious sunny day out with a "just in case hike" after a tiring day at the waterfalls... So it became a 2 in 1 trip for the day....a full day out
First stop... Serendah
A small quaint town along the way to Batang Kali for our waterfall trip. Many regular hikers do stop here to "ta pau" breakfast and lunch before proceeding to either waterfalls or hiking trails. Surprisingly, it was quite busy even during this pandemic....pre C19, I was told by the vendors that it's even busier !! Wow....how times have changed
Second stop Sg Kedondong Waterfalls
After our quick stop we headed off to Sg Kedondong waterfalls..... our lil adventure. The hike up to the falls takes about an hour although you can still picnic near the car park... there are plenty of spots to choose. However, surprisingly, even on a weekday it was fairly crowded at most of the lower river spots.
The main attractions are the 2 main falls, the lower and uppers falls
The lowers falls has a relatively big pool to swim in and can be quite dangerous judging from the water swirling....the under currents could be strong. However we decided to hike up to the upper falls where there is lesser people and a sandbank to picnic
The lower falls... this is considered the main Sg Kedondong waterfall where most people gather. The pool is sizeable and water is super cold!! Probably because the water comes from Genting Highlands!!
A short hike up will take you to the upper falls...
View of the upper falls...the sandbank is on the left where we settled in with all our gear and the setback is you have to cross the stream!!! But then again we're already going to swim, play, splash.... so yep... good place to picnic
Overall, Sg Kedondong waterfall is a very nice place to picnic, enjoy a dip in the cool stream and play at the falls. Worth the trip and early rise to take an hour plus drive to this waterfall for a days outing
Third stop Hiking up Rawang Bypass
The trail head starts from a playground and takes you all the way to the Rawang Bypass Highway. The trail is a proper road albeit unkept and overgrown with grass and shrubs. Once you reach the highway there are 2 ways to the peak... one way is through a round monsoon drain cutting across the highway and the other is via a proper path underneath the highway..it's basically a loop.
The start of the trail head with my regular "hiking kakis".... This road will take us all the way to the highway...and the drain we had to cross below the highway!!!The ascend to the top is by climbing up some steep drains (primarily its the drains to channel rain water)... Fortunately there were ropes to help us climb up
The entire hike from the trail head took about 30 mins.....not too long but a test of your stamina to climb up the steep drains...overall not too difficult to climb. Once you reach the top, the view is amazing..... a sight to behold
View of the surrounding area from the top.... I was told it's even prettier during the evenings
On the way down, we took the other way to complete the loop. The descend is just as steep as climbing up and thanks to the ropes available, we made it down easily and safely. Taking the underpass route, we made it back safely within 30 mins
Overall, I would say that this is quite an easy hike and a √ to my hiking bucket list. An amazing 2 in 1 trip..... crazy but fun
