Hiddden Gems of Jugra

Since inter-state travelling is still closed, what better way to spend travelling within Selangor. Taking a road less travelled and often ignored by many visitors, Jugra was the destination!! Located about 1 hr plus from KL, there are several interesting places you can visit for a day.

First stop....Jugra Lighthouse, located on top of a hill, it commands a spectacular view of the surrounding areas. On weekends, there are para-gliders thrill seekers who use this hill as well.

Amazing View

There are shelters and seats for you to take a break and soak up the breeze..... For the adventurous, you can park your car at the foot of the hill and walk up...definitely will burn up all the calories!!! I took the easy way out !!!

Further down the road from the foot of Jugra Hill is a lesser known Museum, The In-Situ Jugra Museum. This was the site of a police station during the Malaya Emergency era and has since been refurbished to accommodate the history of the police station. In the Museum you can read all out the station's history and the role it played during the Emergency.

Some of the old artifacts discovered when rebuilding the station

The Museum is not very big but enough to tell the history....including the Selangor Royalty Lineage...You'll be surprised at the origins of the Selangor Royal family. Unfortunately, the first floor was under renovation....Hmmmmmm what history could be hidden up there!!!

Located close by is a small village called the Royalty Village, where Istana Bandar is located. This is the Istana of Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah during the 1900s. Beautifully architectured and built, currently it's left as is. It would have been great if it was converted to a living Museum to showcase the Sultan's life and history.

There are no charges to visit the Istana.

After all the walking and sightseeing, decided to have a late lunch at Restoran Kwee Chee, about the only one that was still open. Apparently famous for its Mee Bakar !! basically noodles fried in Banana leaf. Decided to give it try and was quite pleased with it. To accompany my noodles I ordered Claypot slated fish with pork belly, not disappointed at all. You can (for once) actually bite in to chunks of salted fish and the meat was not too fat....just the way I like it. Though I ordered small portions but big enough to make me skip dinner......πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Overall a good day outing and would recommend for families to bring children along for some good history lessons.
